Links for the Weekend : Adele'd out, Shad's mixtape, and more...

I'm a little late on this, but Shad has released a new mixtape.

 Read more after the jump.

Pitchfork rounds up their news items of the year.  My favourite section is their round up of quotes.

Also my favourite news item and automatic double take this year, Jack White teams up with the Insane Clown Posse.

More Adele worshiping. I think Adele is an extremely talented performer and an interesting artist but if I hear Rolling in the Deep one more time, bad things will happen.

A very interesting geographical breakdown of the year in music. Was happy to see my current home town of Halifax represented.

Finally, two articles that are some fodder for debate. Both articles argue that music and culture are becoming stagnant and too reflective on the past. These views really bother me, especially considering the amount of interesting and progressive music that came out this year. They complain that mainstream culture is losing its ability to evolve or create something new, but has mainstream culture ever really been all that interesting. The most interesting things have always happened around the edges. The general public doesn't want to hear challenging and progressive music, they want to hear their baby boom favourites play a reunion tour because the nostalgia comforts them. It is their money that feeds this cycle, which makes it particularly hypocritical of them to turn around and say that their music was more interesting than our generations.
